The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
