England and Wales Pitted in the Same Group for RWC 2027 Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was overseen by rugby legends such as former All Black Dan Carter.

England and Wales will face off in the same group for the World Cup in 2027, promising a major pool stage clash in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This draw recalls their infamous clash in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at England's home ground contributed to the English team's shock group stage elimination.

Other Notable Pool Draws

Ireland and the Scots also share a pool once again, just as the situation from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, Ireland secured a 36-14 win, with their opponents unable to advance to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Portugal, who each impressed as surprise packages in France, complete that same group.

Significantly, the winners of these two groups cannot meet defending champions and world number one the Springboks before the showpiece match, presuming the South Africans win their own group.

Tournament Ramifications

Should the groups conclude according to the current global standings, other leading contenders like New Zealand and France would also be kept apart from both England and the Irish all the way to the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the remaining top-ranked nation on the same side of the elimination bracket as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Draw Blockbuster Opener

Tournament hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their trans-Tasman rivals and triple champions the All Blacks in Pool A.

Australia will kick off the World Cup in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster fixture aimed at jump-start the event.

Elsewhere, holders the Springboks have been paired with Italy, the Lelos and Romania. The French team are in a pool with Japan, 2031 hosts the USA and Manu Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Los Pumas will take on Fiji, Spain and the Canadian team as the World Cup expands to twenty-four nations from the twenty who competed in 2023.

The 2027 tournament will introduce a round of 16 stage for the very first time in Rugby World Cup history.

While the victor of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the game's biggest beasts early on, they will have to face the runner-up from Group B โ€“ most likely the Italians โ€“ in the last 16.

Four of the other six group winners will face a team that finished third from the pool stages.
